Do you like sugary powdered sweet hearts balloons pastel syrup SD kawaii winkey faced bubbles kitten paws dimple anime unicorns glazed sprinkled stars candy-appled ponies adorable frosted pink Chibi Moon bunny whiskers? You don't?!? Then this game isn't for you.

Candy Can, by Khanti Games, is a game about candy in a can. The evil game Amazonia, a rival game of Candy Can, has kidnapped the Candy Doll Girls and encased them in hard candy shell monster animals. You know how some chocolate Easter rabbits are hollow? This is the same sort of thing. The dolls are trapped, unable to eat their way out, and you're their only hope. Your candy can computer will give you a shape (similar to the shapes in Tetris) and you must find any group of like candies matching that shape. Do so, and the pieces of candy making up that shape will be dissolved into syrup. Every so often, more candies drop in from the top of the can. You have to continually dissolve them, otherwise the can will overflow and there aren't enough fat kids in the universe to save us from the resulting disaster.

Unless your name is Can Do Candy the Expert of Candy Can, you won't be fast enough to match enough shapes to keep the can from overflowing. That's where the "super combo" comes in. You can make a super combo by matching five shapes in a row using the same flavor/color of candy. Do that, and all the candy of that flavor will be dissolved. So if you use star candies to match five shapes in a row, all the stars will disappear from the can. The remaining pieces will drop down, buying you some time when the can is near to overflowing and you're panicking like Lucy at the conveyor belt. It also makes things much easier, because more of the remaining candies will be clumped into groups. That means it's more of a cinch to find the shapes the candy can computer throws at you next.

So how does matching shapes help the Candy Doll Girls? Pay attention, because it makes perfect sense: All the syrup from the dissolved pieces is collected in a container at the left of the screen. Fill this container with syrup, and a special hammer will be tossed into the can on top of a random column. If you can dissolve all the pieces below the hammer and get it to the bottom of the can, it will smash apart a bit of the hard shell encasing that level's doll. Do this four times and the doll will be freed, and she'll toss an "up" into the can. You might think that getting this "up" to the bottom of the can will give you an extra life. That's ridiculous. Instead, it will send you to the next level.

Candy Can comes with a tutorial that makes no sense, doesn't really explain the game, and doesn't stop the game while you're reading the nonsensical instructions it pops up.

As sickeningly sweet as it is, the game is very fun, and will keep you on the edge of your toes. Most players will be wary because in a game this cutesy there's always the danger that a kitten rainbow of hearts will scroll across the screen with the message "I wuv you," causing the average gamer's brain to explode. As you progress through the sixteen levels, starting at Lemon Beach and moving into Strawberry Garden, Apple Meadow, and Baccate Sky, the shapes that the candy can computer asks you to match get more complicated and difficult to find. (Luckily complicated shapes are worth more points.) Sometimes you have to start a super combo attempt over from the beginning because the shape you need isn't available in the flavor of candy you've been matching. Even worse, sometimes you have to wait for more candy to fall down.

Occasionally special magical powerups fall into the can, but their magic is only temporary so you'll want to activate them before they devolve into normal pieces of candy. Powerups act as wildcard pieces and can be part of any match. Balloons are the simplest special pieces. They're just normal wildcard pieces. Others are clocks that pause the rain of candy for a few seconds, lightning storms that dissolve whole columns of candies, and more. You'll need these special pieces if you're serious about rescuing the Candy Doll Girls from the evil game Amazonia.

I counted only two songs in Candy Can, but both are groovy excellent and you won't get tired of them. You may even tap your toes.

You know how you sometimes make a special bowl of your favorite sugared cereal consisting only of the flavored marshmellows? You know how you're still hungry after eating two glazed doughnuts, but three is a mistake? You know how you can't help but gobble down all your good Halloween candy the same evening you get it? Candy Can isn't quite the same, but I bet that if you leave your window open and the game unattended, your computer will be swarmed by ants, humming birds, orioles, and the Easter Bunny.
